Kevin Hart was originally set to host the show, but stepped down amid backlash over past homophobic comments.

Swift is nominated for top artist as well as top female artist while Eilish is up for those same two categories plus top Billboard 200 artist and top Hot 100 artist. Both artists are also nominated for the fan-voted award Icon Of The Year alongside Garth Brooks and Jennifer Lopez.

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards took place on Sunday, May 23, in Los Angeles, and the red carpet did not disappoint. Celebrities like Lizzo, Doja Cat, Machine Gun Kelly, Bad Bunny, Saweetie, and SZA all brought their A-game to the annual awards show.
Lizzo kicked off the night with a bang, wearing a plunging golden gown by Versace that featured cascading ruffles. The “Truth Hurts” singer accessorized her look with over $2 million worth of diamonds, including Harry Winston diamond earrings and rings, according to PEOPLE.
Doja Cat also went for a glamorous look, donning a custom Versace dress with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit. She accessorized with jewels from Ofira Jewels and Sorabella.
Machine Gun Kelly also turned heads on the red carpet in a green suit by Saint Laurent. He complemented his look with black shoes and socks, as well as a black face mask.
Bad Bunny kept it simple in all black but added some edge with his black leather jacket covered in studs. He wore Gucci pants and sneakers and finished off his look with Cartier jewelry.
Saweetie opted for a much brighter look, wearing a yellow tulle gown by Giambattista Valli Haute Couture complete with ruffles and bows. She accessorized with Chopard jewelry and Jimmy Choo shoes.
SZA went for a more timeless look in a white Chanel dress with pearls and glittery heels.
The after parties
